An ever-growing number of people today around the world are realizing that they need and want to learn English. But almost everyone is unsure they have enough time to do it. However, recent research carried out by Sapio Research for Wall Street English has shown that people do have more than enough free time but they frequently use it badly.
The results revealed that, though people clearly work very hard, on average they still have four hours free on workdays. Moreover, they have eight hours free on their day off. In total, most people have 38 hours of free time a week.
How do people spend their free time?
So what do people usually do with all this free time? Two thirds of the people interviewed said they believe they waste most of their free time. The top four reasons people gave were:
● hanging out with people they don’t like (44%)
● playing video and mobile phone games (42%)
● watching TV (42%)
● using the phone (40%)
Nine out of ten people interviewed felt they could make better use of their free time.
When asked how they would like to make better use of their free time, three quarters of the people interviewed said they would like to use their free time to learn something new, and 57% of these people want to specifically learn English. So how long do we need to change from a beginner to a professional in English?
The answer is : 61 days to become proficient in English.
That means between eight to nine weeks of studying, and with the right method that is feasible.
The 4 main points in making good use of your free time:
1) SET YOUR OWN PACE – personalise your course for the rhythm that suits you and receive support and guidance from start to finish.
2) LEARN NATURALLY – learn English by speaking and listening and through trial and error, just as you learnt your native language.
3) HAVE FUN WHILE LEARNING – create more chance to get in touch with English, such as play games, watch movies or meet some new friends who are native English speakers
4) ANYTIME ANYWHERE – do your interactive lessons at any time of any day wherever you are, with your phone/tablet in your hands. You can download different apps or click on some websites / blog.
Our free time is precious and how we use it can transform our lives. Whether you work, study or look after your family, everyone has different needs and objectives regarding English.
