You have your job interview scheduled—congratulations! Now it’s time to prepare, and we’ve got you covered. Below, we provide an overview of how to do a perfect self-introduction and make a good impression to the interviewer.
1. Career overview
The interviewer expects you to briefly introduce your academic background and working experience in your self-introduction. Be concise and do not cover every detail on your resume.
- previous work experience
You can talk about your previous job, the company and the period of that job.
For new graduates, we always mention the internships we have done, which can be presented as “I have had + time + of work experience with + company”.
I have had three months of work experience with a marketing company.
- not an expert in this area
Do not say “I have no experience”. Although you are being very honest, it is too straightforward. You can put it as “I’m not an expert in this area”.
2. Ambition
Ambition can refer to your enthusiasm, but it can also be shown through your career path.
- aim for success
You can replace it with “relish the chance” and “direct toward the target of”.
In previous jobs, I have demonstrated my ambition and ability when interacting with customers. I would relish the chance to take responsibility and prove myself in the field of marketing.
3. Interests
The question of “Tell me about your interests” is not only asking your hobbies but also what the things are that you keep up with.
- pay attention to current affairs/trends.
“Keep up with” and “current events” are good synonyms.
- social activities
You can show that you are an out-going person who is good at making connections.
You can say “take part in” or “participate in” social activities.
In this role, I became familiar with social media management, and kept up with the latest digital trends. Also, I continuously participated in social activities to step outside my comfort zone.
