1. On the rocks
General meaning: a very serious issue occurred
e.g., She finds out that her husband has been cheating on her, which causes their marriage to be on the rocks.
Bartending terminology: adding ice to a glass of wine
2. Rolling
General meaning: an object turning over and over
e.g., I like listening to waves rolling sound when I cannot fall asleep. It is so relaxing.
Bartending terminology: repeatedly pour the wine in a shaker into another shaker
3. Neat
General meaning: in a tidy and good order
e.g., My mother tells me to keep my room neat and clean every day, but I always turn a deaf ear to what she says.
Bartending terminology: pure wine (at room temperature and without ice, water, or other drinks)
Besides, there are three other bartending terminologies that cannot be literally translated.
4. Chaser
Bartending terminology: after drinking high concentrated alcohol, drink a glass of water or low concentrated alcohol immediately.
5. Well drink
Bartending terminology: alcohol with a relatively low price and is very common. Customers will not request any brand-specific alcohol.
6. Call drink
Bartending terminology: customers have preferences on alcohol brands, which is the opposite of ‘well drink’.
