Many people focus on the answering skills and simply skip the greetings’ part when preparing for the IELTS Speaking test. However, this part is just as important as it may affect the impression you left on the examiner. So, be well prepared and learn how to answer the part 0 question with Wall Street English!

 

Question 1:

As soon as you enter the room, the examiner may greet you and ask you for your full name. You should greet the examiner back and tell him / her your full name according to your ID card.

 

Examiner: Good morning / afternoon. My name is William. Can you tell me your full name please?

Candidate: Good morning / afternoon John. My name is Wong Chun.

 

Question 2:

After telling your full name, the examiner will ask you your English name.

 

Examiner: What should I call you? / What can I call you?

Candidate: Please call me Tom. / You can call me Tom.

 

Question 3:

Afterwards, the examiner will ask you where you are from. Keep the answer short and precise. You don’t have to provide too much explanation. You may refer to the following examples.

 

Examiner: Can you tell me where you’re from?

Candidate: I was born and raised in Hong Kong. / I’m from Seoul, the capital of South Korea. / I was born in Macau but moved to Hong Kong when I was 14.

 

Question 4:

Lastly, the examiner will ask for your identification.

 

Examiner: Can I see your identification, please?

Candidate: Sure, here it is. / Here you go.
