When it comes to group discussions, conflicting opinions will very often occur as different people may have different ideas and viewpoints. When you hold a different opinion from others, what would you say? Do you simply tell them “I do not agree with you”? Or do you keep it quiet because you hesitate to express your ideas? Wall Street English will teach you diverse ways to politely disagree with others.

Disagree politely

1. I’m afraid I disagree.

2. I beg to differ.

3. I’m not sure about that.

4. I don’t see it that way.

5. I’m sorry but I disagree with you on this.

Show respect to their viewpoints

1. I see what you’re saying but …

2. That’s a valid point, but …

3. While I agree with you on …, have you considered …?

Offer alternatives

1. Well, in my opinion, …

2. To be honest, I think …

When you have different ideas from others, try to be more comfortable using the above approaches. Disagreements are not always about going head-to-head. In fact, it is a great way to gain new ideas and influence people!
