Hi there! This is Penny from Wall Street English. Today we’re going to talk about Time Idioms. Lets have a look at some common ones.

 

Ahead of time

This means that it’s earlier than then deadline

E.g. If we get to the theatre ahead of time, we’ll get better seats.

 

A matter of time

This is used for saying something will definitely happen, but you might not know the exact time.

E.g. It’s only a matter of time before someone gets hurt.

 

For the time being

This means now or at the present moment.

E.g. We have to have cold showers for the time being until they fix the heater.

 

 

Once in a blue moon

This is used to describe something that is rare and uncommon.

E.g. Once in a blue moon, Hong Kong gets a typhoon in November.

 

Have the time of your life

This is used to describe an experience that is amazing, fun and enjoyable.

E.g. Jenny is having the time of her life in New Zealand.
