Hi! This is Justin from Causeway Bay Centre.
In our daily life, we always have to make choices. I’m hungry now, should I have Korean food or Japanese food? Well, I am invited to two parties, should I go to my colleague’s one or my secondary schoolmate’s one? Just because we are making so many decisions every day, how can we only have one way to show our preference? Today, we are going to talk about different expressions for making decisions.
Think about this, you are now presented with two travel packages. One is the trip to Tokyo while another one is to London. Then, you might want to say “I’d rather go to London than Tokyo.”
And then the travel agent asks you another question: Would you like to stay in a 4-star or 5-star hotel? Then you can say “I’d prefer staying in a 4-star hotel to a 5-star one.” Make sure you are not using “than” with “prefer”.
Finally, it comes to the time to pay. They might ask you: Would you be paying by cash or credit card? Then you can say this “I’d like to pay by credit card, please.”
However, no matter which expression you are using, make sure you are giving a reason to support your choice. That’s it for today. See you next time.
